Funcade - Not so Fun Facts About Funcade

I have a story to tell about an unpleasant experience I recently had with a program that goes by the name of Funcade. I feel I need to share this story in hopes of saving someone from what I went through. On the surface Funcade is a collection of games. In reality it is spyware and adware. Spyware is a program that gathers information on you. In the case of Funcade, your browser activity is tracked. Adware is a program that pretty much floods you with advertisements.

I downloaded a screen saver and found that Funcade was included in the bundle only after it had installed itself on my computer, without my knowledge or consent. I started getting what looked like system alerts, but were really ads. I did some research and found that Funcade is bundled with a few kinds of programs. Funcade comes with file sharing programs which are known to carry some nasty bundles. It also comes with screen saver, which I found out the hard way many times has bundles of programs you didn't intend to install. Then there is UnSpyPC, WinFixer2005, and WinFixer2006. These programs pretend to be anti-spyware programs, but are really spyware and malware in disguise.

I tried to remove Funcade the conventional way via add/remove programs, but I was still getting the advertisements. I did some digging and found out to completely remove programs like Funcade one needs to have an anti-spyware program. This is a tricky process because there are a lot of fake programs out there claiming to be anti-spyware. Then there's the fact that most legitimate anti-spyware programs only remove 80-90% of an infection. There are programs out there that will remove 100%, but you have to look for them. Don't believe claims unless you see awards. Some good examples of awards for a superior program are the Tucows' 5 cow rating or WUGNET's Hall of Fame. These awards are easy to verify and are respected in the computer industry.
