One day out of the blue I started getting a lot of pop-up advertisements. I know enough about computers to know something was wrong. I took a look at my task manager to see if anything was running I didn't remember installing and found EQAdvice. I know I didn't install any program called EQAdvice so did some research on what I was dealing with. Turns out EQAdvice is both a Trojan and adware.
A Trojan horse, or Trojan is also referred to as a backdoor. It is a type of malware that will get onto your computer by posing as a desirable program. It could appear as a game, a screen saver, antivirus software, etc. A Trojan, once on your computer, will open up security holes in your computer so that the creator can get some kind of access or control of your computer. Once said access to your computer is achieved it can be used in spam campaigns, denial of service attacks, etc. or your private files can be accessed and possibly destroyed. That can be a problem if your computer is used for business and needs to be confidential.
Adware is a program that was written so that advertisers could get their advertisements directly to you. Their favorite tactic is pop-ups, but they have also been known to deliver pop-unders, banner ads, and floating advertisements. Adware programs can hog your computer's resources, both your processing power and your bandwidth. This leads to having a slower computer and Internet. Adware usually gets on your computer from being in a software bundle. That means that you intend to download and install one program, but extra stuff gets installed when you run the installation of the program you wanted. It can also be installed just by going to the wrong web site.
I did some research and found out that to remove programs like EQAdvice you need an anti-spyware program. There is a problem with this. Most anti-spyware programs only remove 80-90% of an infection leaving you still infected in many cases. I knew there had to be a way to be sure to remove EQAdvice so I kept looking. Then I found http://www.spyzooka.com/spyware-removal-guarantee.htm. SpyZooka was just what I was looking for. A program that guarantees 100% removal of my infection!
